It’s not every day you meet a stand-up guy like Tim Troop. As an analytical minded realtor with an understanding of the heart it takes to commit to selling or buying a home, you’re guaranteed an experience like no other. Without further ado, let’s learn more about the man, the myth, the legend, Tim Troop.
Q: When did you join the Cheney group?
A: I joined the Cheney Group in 2015. A week after that, Jeff Cheney decided to run for Mayor.
I enjoy the team atmosphere at the Cheney Group. It’s not only something from a real estate perspective but from a personal development perspective. I enjoy how plugged in I’ve become in the city of Frisco. Being led by Jeff Cheney is a great experience as well. I’m proud to work for a real estate group that has such a strong knowledge of local and city governments.
Coming on to the Cheney Group has allowed me to grow professionally. Looking back at how unaware I was of local and city government, being a part of this has really opened my eyes to the importance of good leadership for a city.
Q: What is your approach when working with a client?
A: I treat it more like a friendship. I like them to feel like we’re friends going through this together and I would like for them to understand I’m serving them and I’m helping them through a big decision, but we can also have some fun throughout the process.
Coming from commercial real estate, it is very numbers oriented while residential is very heart oriented. I do a good job of having empathy or the “mama” aspect of the decision while also helping them understand if it’s a good decision number wise.
Q: Why did you choose Real Estate for a career?
A: After I graduated from college, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. My father in law, an apartment developer in town, got me an interview with a commercial real estate company. After 3 years of that job I jumped into residential real estate and have fallen in love with it!
What I learned from my first 3 years of analyzing numbers has helped me in front of my clients today. I was able to take skills and tools most agents do not have and apply that to my current job.
Q: What are your hobbies and interests outside of real estate?
A: I’m a dad. I have two little boys and a baby girl that was born last month so putting up pink things has been talking up a lot of my time. I’ve been very involved with Watermark and getting that started in Frisco. We had our first Sunday not too long ago at our new campus. We had 850 people show up!
I think like every other male in real estate, I play a lot of golf. I played soccer in college. Recently I’ve been coaching 7th and 8th-grade boys to stay in the game and now I’m coaching my little boys’ soccer team.
Q: Any other information you would like to share?
A: We have a pretty serious fantasy football league at the Cheney Group. We have a huge trophy and Louis puts it right in my face to look at. This year we implemented a last place consequence…Allyson is in last place at the moment. The winner gets to design a phone case and the loser has to leave it on their phone the entire year.
When buying or selling a home, you have the opportunity to work with a lot of realtors. But when you choose Tim Troop, you’re not just choosing a realtor. You’re choosing a friend, a professional, and, most importantly, a Commissioner of the Cheney Group Fantasy Football league.
