Frisco Breaks Ground on Nation’s First Energy-Free Neighborhood

By Cheney Group | On

This morning was a historic moment in Frisco as a new modern, energy-free development broke ground. Headed by The New Modern Home out of Plano, the 22-home development will be the first of its kind anywhere. The idea behind the modern community is to build homes that generate enough electricity through solar power, which means no more costly utility bills. The New Modern Home was founded by Jimmy Tanghongs, an independent builder and a graduate of the University of Texas. In his search to find the perfect community for his modern idea, Tanghongs settled on Frisco because of Frisco’s excellent quality of life, exceptional parks, high-end amenities, and unparalleled school system. Those involved in the project, believe Frisco is the perfect choice for such a unique development, and we couldn’t agree more.

Over the last several years, Frisco has experienced exponential growth. As more and more young people move to the city for a job or simply to create a higher quality of life in such a wonderful community, we expect to see more one-of-a-kind projects like this one. The New Modern Home development will highlight innovation and sustainability, without skimping on design and aesthetics.

About the Development

The 22-home project is located near Preston Road and a model home can be found near U.S. 380 in Frisco. Tanghongs “Texas modern” style already has a few interested buyers, and we are expecting the other homes to be spoken for quickly. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking to buy in the area and who is interested in living in a stylish, luxury home that requires no exterior maintenance or electricity bills. The homes themselves will range from 2,000 to 5,000 square feet and sell for under $500,00 to $800.000. The outside of the houses will be constructed from brick and stone, with commercial grade roofs and solar panels that will generate more than enough power. But that’s not all – the homes will also include charging stations for electric cars. If this isn’t a community of the future, we don’t know what is!

Tanghongs hopes his one-of-a-kind, self-sufficient community will inspire other builders to do the same. The futuristic, high-tech development is eye-catching and is like no other community in the world. And the young builder isn’t just the brains behind the development, he and his young family have lived in a prototype modern home in North Frisco since late last year. Just so you can get a better idea of what to expect if you decide to be one of the first to purchase a New Modern Home, Tanghongs reports that his home – which is 3,600 square feet, four bedrooms, and outfitted with 40 solar panels – generated enough electricity over the last year to receive a $27 energy credit.
